In British Columbia, the regulatory requirements for annual structural inspections of drilling and service rigs are detailed in the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation B.C. Reg. 296/97, Part 23 - Oil and Gas, specifically section 23\.32\.

Each drilling and service rig must undergo inspection and repair according to the standards published by the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC), which include: [1]

  • Recommended Practice 1\.0, for Drilling Rigs, Mast Inspection and Certification
  • Recommended Practice 2\.0, for Drilling Rigs, Overhead Equipment Inspection and Certification
  • Recommended Practice 3\.0, for Service Rigs, Inspection and Certification of Masts
  • Recommended Practice 4\.0, for Service Rigs, Overhead Equipment Inspection and Certification
  • Recommended Practice 1\.0A, Addendum for Drilling Rigs, Substructure Inspection and Certification

[1] These inspections and any repairs performed must be recorded in a CAODC log book or an equivalent log that is acceptable to the Board. This log must be available on-site for review by an officer. [2]
