Kayden Industries (now Kayden Environmental Services) was founded in 1995 as a three-person operation in Calgary with one goal: build centrifuges that actually work. They succeeded.

Today Kayden is an international leader in solids control, dewatering, desludging, and dredging, with over 150 centrifuges deployed in the harshest environments on the planet — from the sub-zero temperatures of the Canadian Arctic to the oil fields of Australia. They operate out of Calgary, Beaverlodge, Casper, Denver, Midland, Houston, and Marietta, Ohio. Their field crews run 20-days-on, 10-days-off rotations in remote locations where cell service is a luxury, not a given.

Operational safety turns field work into usable proof.

The situation

18 folders deep to find one JSA

Kayden had already tried going digital — plural apps, all designed for offices and bolted onto field operations. Meanwhile, paper was still running in parallel. Neither system worked.

01

Digital tools worse than paper

Retrieving a single JSA meant navigating 18 folders. Remote sites with unreliable connectivity made it worse. Adoption dropped because the tools were harder to use than what they replaced.

02

Costly booklets, zero ROI

Paper safety booklets were printed every quarter at enormous cost — a recurring line item that couldn't track, timestamp, or prove anything.

Why SALUS

Offline-first safety that works from the Arctic to the outback

01

Easiest to navigate

Kayden reviewed multiple platforms. They needed something that would streamline safety for two audiences at once: the personnel in the field completing forms and the people in the background collecting documentation and ensuring compliance. SALUS was the easiest to navigate. Full stop.

02

Offline-first for remote sites

The feature that sealed it for a company operating in the Arctic and the Australian outback? It worked without service. Offline functionality with auto-sync meant that a crew member on a remote well pad could complete a JSA, a hazard assessment, or an equipment inspection without a cell signal — and the data would sync the moment connectivity returned.

03

A structured digital library

The platform gave Kayden something their previous apps never could: a structured digital library. SDS sheets, safe work procedures, critical documents — all organized in folders that every worker could access from their phone. No more 18-folder scavenger hunts. No more calling the office to ask where something was filed.

04

Support that actually fixes things

When Kayden flagged an issue — adding a worker to a site, a form glitch, anything — it was fixed in under five minutes. Not acknowledged. Fixed. When they recommended changes to the platform, those recommendations were taken, implemented, and pushed live. The platform didn't just work for Kayden. It evolved with them.

The shift

A crew member on a remote well pad could complete a JSA, a hazard assessment, or an equipment inspection without a cell signal — and the data would sync the moment connectivity returned.

The impact

If we have a concern with adding an individual to a site or an issue with a form, we get immediate attention. We get a response immediately. They’re able to help us immediately and in under five minutes the issue is fixed. Also taking recommendations. We have reached out to SALUS multiple times asking for changes in the program or the ability for the program to do something that works better with our company and SALUS has taken those recommendations and put them into play. We have seen it continue to grow and improve and all the suggestions that we’ve given are taken into consideration and implemented.

Full customer perspective

What surprised me the most is how quickly everyone got on board. There was no major training that was required. It was easy for them to get in and use and the recommendations that we’re getting back from our personnel, they’re bought in. They’re invested. They review the documents. They make suggestions for improvement. That’s the biggest. And we’ve seen participation from all departments. So, there’s not one person in the company that doesn’t sign in and use it.
